Biography

Chayan Vaddhanaphuti, founding director of Chiang Mai University’s Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development, has conducted extensive research and advocacy concerning the rights of local and indigenous communities in Thailand. His work focuses on the intersection of land rights, natural resource management, and development initiatives. Notably, he has engaged in critical analysis of large-scale development projects, including hydropower and logging, assessing their impact on community rights.

His scholarship and engagement emphasize the importance of sustainable development models that incorporate robust community participation in decision-making processes.
