We invite applications for the Development Studies & Social Research special certificate program, scheduled from October 2024 to April 2025. This fully online program offers lectures and materials in both English and Burmese.
Program Overview
The program links social theories with real-world research practice, equipping participants with essential academic and practical skills. These skills are crucial for addressing the challenges currently facing Myanmar, empowering you and your community with new knowledge. The program aims to train a new generation of social researchers during this time of change and hardship, while also connecting you to an international network of academics and development professionals. Participants will earn academic credits that can be applied towards a Master’s degree at Chiang Mai University.
Flexible Online Learning
Courses are designed to accommodate learners with limited time, irregular schedules, and unreliable connectivity. Instructors are accessible through live online sessions and other communication channels. Funding support is available for students with demonstrated financial need. The program is accredited by Chiang Mai University, and the credits earned can be used towards a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.
Course Structure
Seven taught modules plus supervised term papers/assignments.
Delivered through lectures, group discussions, self-study, and guided group work.
Core readings in English; lectures and discussions in Burmese.
Each module includes 45 hours of teaching, discussion, and guided assignments.
Program Trainer: The course is led by Dr. Mike Griffiths, a Research Fellow at the Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development, Faculty of Social Science, Chiang Mai University. Dr. Griffiths brings over 15 years of experience in teaching and research in Myanmar.
