RCSD and Mekong Land Research Forum (MLRF) held the immersive Summer School on Land Relations in the Mekong Region from 5-9 June 2023. The summer school was focused on four fundamental themes: land-based investment, agricultural commercialization, land access, control, and dispossession, land and environmental transformations, sustainable land management and conservation, and land, environmental justice, and marginalized groups.
Additionally, the Summer School explored practices of land and forest ‘co-management,’ encompassing protected area management, community forestry, and the recognition of customary tenure. Lastly, it is shedding light on the intersection of land, environmental justice, and marginalized groups, with a specific focus on ethnic minorities, indigenous peoples, women, and youth.
By engaging with these themes, participants were exposed to a holistic understanding of ongoing land dynamics in the Mekong Region and it is hoped this will contribute to the development of more equitable and sustainable land policies and practices.
