IARU Global Transformations: Borderland: Critical Approaches to Field Research in the Global South
Hosted by the University of Copenhagen, UC Berkeley, and RCSD at Chiang Mai University, the “Borderland” course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to think critically about process in the conduct of research through combined classroom learning, field engagement and immersion in local environment that include short term placement with local NGOs or ongoing research projects in and around Chiang Mai and northern Thailand.
Borderland participants engage with readings, lectures, and experiential activities aimed at providing the necessary contexts for student field engagement and for the development of a final research proposal, while the work conducted with NGOs and the research projects are meant to give students ‘real-world’ experience that informs critical research.
