CMU master’s and NOHA students visit Mae Sot under forced displacement curriculum

The Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD), Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University, organized a field study program in Mae Sot from 4–7 September 2025. The program was part of the academic collaboration between RCSD and the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA) under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Programme in International Humanitarian Action. A total of 14 NOHA exchange students joined 8 students from the International MA in Social Science (Development Studies) for this academic activity.

The field study complemented classroom courses such as Forced Displacement and Cooperative Studies (Internship in Humanitarian Organizations), enabling students to directly engage with humanitarian issues along the Thai–Myanmar border. Students visited and learned from local NGOs and community organizations working in areas including healthcare services, community health promotion, labor rights and welfare, migrant education, and refugee support. The program provided an opportunity for students to integrate field experience with academic learning, strengthen cross-cultural understanding, and foster cooperation between Chiang Mai University, local organizations, and affected communities in Mae Sot.
