Job Vacancies in the Space for Policy and Actions through the Co-production of Knowledge for Empowerment (SPACE) Program under RCSD

The Regional Center for Social Sciences and Sustainable Development (RCSD), Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University is announcing it is accepting applications for two position under the SPACE Project:

Vacancy: Project assistant

Duration: First six months (with potential possibility of extension based on performance and funding)
Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand

Expected Start Date: 4 August 2025

Key Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will work closely with project team to ensure the smooth implementation of coordination of activities, events, and communications. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Administrative Support: Assist in day-to-day project administration, including scheduling meetings, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and organizing logistics.
  • Event Coordination: Support the organization of workshops, conferences, trainings, and meetings—both virtual and in-person—including coordinating participants, venues, materials, and travel arrangements.
  • Communication and Documentation: Assist with internal and external communications, take meeting minutes, and support the drafting of reports, summaries, and updates for various stakeholders.
  • Financial Coordination: expense tracking, petty cash, and reimbursements related to project activities.
  • Data and Filing Systems: Maintain organized and up-to-date digital and physical filing systems for project documents, reports, and communications.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Thai nationality with good communication skills, skills in English (spoken and written); knowledge of regional languages is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, public administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom, or other online collaboration platforms.
  • Interest in civic engagement, human rights, or community development is highly desirable.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and responsible attitude with a willingness to learn and grow.

Vacancy: Project Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

The Project coordinator will work closely with project team to undertake

  • Strategic Coordination: Facilitate the effective coordination of project activities
  • Community Empowerment: Support the leadership development of marginalized communities and civil society partners
  • Knowledge Co-production: Facilitate participatory research, learning exchanges, and collaborative knowledge production between grassroots actors and academic institutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with civil society organizations, community leaders, researchers to foster inclusive partnerships.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Support the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems, contribute to reporting, and assist in strategic communications.
  • Event and Workshop Facilitation: Organize and facilitate regional workshops, forums, and dialogues in inclusive and participatory ways.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in social sciences, public policy, development studies, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project coordination, especially in contexts involving marginalized communities, civil society, or participatory research.
  • Strong understanding of issues related to civic space, social justice, Indigenous rights, or environmental governance in Southeast Asia.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively across diverse sectors, cultures, and geographies.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written); proficiency in regional languages is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and travel occasionally within the region.

Space for Policy and Actions through the Co-production of Knowledge for Empowerment (SPACE) is an interdisciplinary initiative grounded in values of social justice, equity, and inclusive development. The project works with indigenous peoples, local communities, civil society actors, and academic partners to protect civic space, support rights-based advocacy, and amplify community-led responses to pressing socio-environmental challenges. SPACE promotes locally-rooted leadership, the integration of diverse knowledge systems, and regional solidarity through research, dialogue, and capacity-building.
